Microprocessor
Microprocessor is heart of pc and it is multiple programmable device or it is accept instruction store the instruction and process the instruction give the desire output and it’s read only binary instruction. It is also known as CPU
Identifying a processor
There are three factors available in microprocessor
Clock speed
Cache memory
FSB/BSB
Clock speed
The speed of microprocessor depend on variers factors such as the number of instruction it processor the bandwidth and the clock speed. The speed of microprocessor various from 66mhz to 3.8ghz
Catche memory
Front side bus
It is also know as the system bus or memory bus. FSB refers to the bus that connects the CPU to the system memory
Operating voltage of microprocessor
Intel motherboard support various setting in the range of 1.2 to 2.5v to work with many processors
Types of processor
The launch of Intel Pentium microprocessor in 1993 enables system to execute program that required a lot of processing. Intel then gradually went on to develop the Pentium 2 Celeron, pentium3 and Pentium 4 or dual core,core2 duo,core2 quad,corei3,core i5,core i7
Core i3 features
Core i3 processor possesses 32nm dual core processing.
Hyper threading technology
Allow each core of the processors to work on two different tasks at the same time(multi task processing)
Smart cache
Which is dynamically allocated to each processor core based on the work load? It improves the performance. Core i3 consist of a 4mb l3 smart cache with direct media interface (DMI)
Intel HD graphics
Provides super visual performance for sharp images rich colors video and audio
Intel 64 architecture
Support 64 bit computing and this architecture allow the system to address more than 4gb of virtual and physical memory
Intel virtualization technology
Intel virtualization technology provides greater flexibility and maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server
Core i5 features
Turbo boast technology
Turbo boost technology maximizes speed for demanding application dynamically accelerating performance to match you workload
HD Graphics
HD graphics provides super visual performance for sharper images richer color
Integrated memory controller
This memory controller lower latency and higher memory bandwidth.
Core i7 features
Quick path interconnect
Quick path interconnect is a point to point processor interconnects used to connect core i7 processor to the i/o controller hub. QPI feature in provides increased bandwidth and low latency. Is is transfer speed 25.6 GB/SEC with extreme edition processor
HD boost
HD boost significantly
Microprocessor sockets
The socket on the motherboard connects the microprocessor to the motherboard the microprocessor or socket has pins that allow the processor to communicate with the motherboard
Socket and processor
- Socket PGA370 – Celeron 2 and pentium3
- Slot 1(242 pin) -Pentium 1, Pentium 2
- Socket PGA 478-pentium 4
- Socket LGA 775- pin less Pentium 4 dual core, core2 guard
- Socket LGA 1156-
Intel CPU socket designed to replace LGA 775. This is also known as socket H. Intel core i3,i5 and i7 processor are install on this socket
Packaging
The method of connect to processor on motherboard is called packaging
Type of packaging
Two type of packing
Pin type (LGA-GIF)
pin less(PGA-LIF)
Installing the microprocessor
The microprocessor is the part of the computer that does all the processing. The microprocessor and the motherboard are depend on each other. Before installing the processor on motherboard we must check that the motherboard and microprocessor are compatible with each other
Heat sink
A heat sink is a component that is used to provide cooling to an electronic device
Troubleshooting overheating issue
A microprocessor produce heat with processing the data and if overheating can cause permanent damage to the microprocessor. Adequate cooling device such as processor fan must install to cool down processor.
Solve the problem
checks that processor fan is installing or functioning properly.
2 if dried up then dab some thermal paste on the top of the processor
3 check the jumper setting on the motherboard and the BIOS setting or restore the BIOS setting to default setting
Troubleshooting slow processing or hanging issues
A microprocessor runs slow and hanging issues
Solve the problem
1 clean the system by the help of a hand blower
2 use a thin layer of heat sink compound on the top of the processor
3 check the CPU fan whether it’s properly rotating recommended speed. Clean the fan
4 check if the microprocessor supports the application that is running
Check the CPU setting on motherboard restores BIOS setting
Troubleshooting no display problem
The computer may encounter a problem of no display. One reason may be due to processor failure and this moment the system generates Beep code. About the processor failure
Solve the problem
1 check whether the CPU fan is functioning properly
2 clear the CMOS and check
3 check the voltage regulator ICs near the processor using multi meter|
4 last step change the processor
5 check if processor is getting core voltage
